Kristen Stewart Jury Duty Pic Triggers Mini Scandal

Written By Maria On February 5, 2010
________________________

Kristen Stewart was just trying to do her civic duty. Too bad it’s put two men into some real doodie.

The Twilight starlet (and reigning Vanity Fair covergirl) appeared in Los Angeles Superior Court earlier this week to serve jury duty. Apparently, one of the security guards was a Twi-hard and asked K.Stew to pose for a quick camera-phone photo. Obviously, she was in the giving mood, she obliged.

However, it appears that perhaps K.Stew shouldn’t have been so generous. The guard’s pal (who was also there) then allowed his wife to post the picture on the Internet…and now the two men could lose their jobs because of it.

“Cancelled because unfortunately the photo that went up from Kristen in court was stolen and put on several blogs and got to the media (the press) and reached the ears of the court,” reads the wife’s Spanish notice in place of the initial blog post and image, which can still be seen on Team-Twilight.com. “Right now my husband and the security guard are in trouble for it having gone up and second because it is confidential when celebrities are in court.”

Apparently, Kristen can instill some of the same fear in people that vampires and werewolves sometimes do.

“Now I feel bad…I am really scared, because I think it is possible that they could lose their jobs,” she admits.

Are You Ready For The R-Rated Kristen?

Written By Megan On February 3, 2010

Tween Twilight fans may have fueled the intense interest in New Moon star Kristen Stewart, but they’re going to be locked out of the actress’s next films: the R-rated The Runaways, the Joan Jett-Cherie Currie biopic with her New Moon costar Dakota Fanning (due in theaters March 19), and Welcome to the Rileys, which both screened at the Sundance Film Festival recently.

At the film fest in Park City, Utah, the 19-year-old wore skinny jeans and sneakers in the snow and a khaki jacket she pulled close against the endless cold. She had that rebel without a cause vibe, a junior James Dean. This was not an actress racing toward couture and acclaim, but nervously holding herself together, knees thrumming uncontrollably, until she could slip behind her next part.

As the 70’s rock rebel Joan Jett, Stewart channels the teen spirit of girls growing up in a world where pudgy guitar teachers unapologetically told them they couldn’t play electric guitar simply because they were girls. As Jett, she also takes drugs, blows pot smoke into the mouth of her bandmate Cherie Currie (Fanning) and plants a same-sex kiss. Bye-bye, Bella: Twilight this is not.

In Welcome to the Rileys Stewart plays a low-rent teen stripper who turns tricks for cash in New Orleans. The story? This runaway becomes the catalyst for parents (Oscar nominee Melissa Leo and The Sopranos star James Gandolfini) grieving over their daughter’s accidental death. It’s the kind of part that seems like a rite of passage for child stars stepping into adulthood. The actress is believable as yet another waif who would be luckier to make choices between a vampire and a wolfman, than the johns that walk in off Bourbon Street.

While these R-rated parts may not be quite the role models for which most moms would have asked, Stewart’s eclectic choice of roles, and ability to meet their demands, is a preface to what will likely be a long and prolific career in front of the camera. Is she ready for the challenge?

Vanity Fair Lists Hollywoods Top Money Makers

Written By Megan On February 3, 2010

Michael Bay (pictured), director and producer of the blockbuster Transformers series, beat mogul Steven Spielberg to top Vanity Fair’s inaugural list of Hollywood’s Top 40 Moneymakers, which the magazine releases on Tuesday. Bay pulled in $125 million last year, according to the magazine, ahead of Spielberg ($85 million), action director Roland Emmerich ($70 million), Avatar auteur James Cameron ($50 million), and Todd Phillips, producer of The Hangover ($44 million). The magazine limits its list to film-industry creatives: producers, directors, and stars.

Nine women made it into the top 40. The list’s highest-ranking actress, Emma Watson (no. 14), beats out Cameron Diaz (no. 19), Sarah Jessica Parker (no. 24), Katherine Heigl (no. 25), and Reese Witherspoon (no. 31). For now, Hogwarts trumps vampires: Along with Watson, Harry Potter hero Daniel Radcliffe (no. 6) and supporting actor Rupert Grint (no. 15) rank far above Twilight co-stars Robert Pattinson (no. 35) and Kristen Stewart (no. 37).

The magazine interviewed scores of Hollywood insiders, says contributing editor Peter Newcomb, who compiled the list. Although agents, lawyers, studio executives and even the stars themselves provided the deal numbers, calculating the earning power isn’t always an exact science, Newcomb says.

Who will we see on the list in 2011? Count on Twilight’s Taylor Lautner to be here, and for a stronger showing from the King of the World. Avatar director Cameron helped generated sales of more than $800 million for 2009, and his no. 1 movie will most likely also be on the 2010 list a year from now. Also hitting multiplexes this year: the third Fockers installment, for which Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller will each earn about $20 million. Owen Wilson will pull in $15 million for his efforts.
The March Vanity Fair will be on newsstands in New York and Los Angeles on Wednesday and will be available nationally on next Tuesday. Here’s the full list:

Fresh Faces, Bright Futures
For the 2010 Hollywood Portfolio, nine burgeoning leading ladies—from Twilight star Kristen Stewart to comedienne Emma Stone—posed for Annie Leibovitz, attired in evening glam and country chic.

From left: Carey Mulligan (dress by J. Mendel, earrings by Lee Angel), Kristen Stewart (dress by Blumarine, shoes by Pedro Garcia, watch by Jaeger-LeCoultre), Abbie Cornish (dress by Dior, shoes by Aldo, earrings by David Yurman, bracelet by Cartier), Mia Wasikowska (dress by Luisa Beccaria, earrings by David Yurman), Amanda Seyfried (dress by Chado Ralph Rucci, earrings by Beladora), Rebecca Hall (dress by Dior, shoes by Vera Wang, earrings by Beladora), Emma Stone (dress by J. Mendel, shoes by Manolo Blahnik, earrings by David Yurman), Evan Rachel Wood (dress by Dior, earrings by Cartier, bracelet by David Yurman), and Anna Kendrick (dress by J. Mendel, shoes by Pedro Garcia, earrings by Beladora, ring by David Yurman).

In an era in which every teen star has a stylist and a bland pop record, 19-year-old Kristen Stewart is the tough-minded, no-frills anomaly. Stewart played Bella Swan not as a cartoon but as anxious and complicated—making the predicament of being torn between a vampire and a werewolf seem … well, almost plausible. The daughter of a television-producer father and an Australian script-supervisor mother, the L.A.-bred Stewart has been consistently drawn to melancholy over flash. Between Twilight installments, her edgy trajectory will continue with Welcome to the Rileys, about the friendship between a stripper and a married businessman, played by James Gandolfini, and The Runaways, about rocker Joan Jett.
